PostNatal
PostNatal
PostNatal is a group show ft artists Lauren McLaughlin (@laurenlifeartandstuff), Emma O’Brien (@emmaobrien2016), Rebecca Livesey-Wright (@rebeccor_blimey), Charmaine Beneyto (@charmainebeneyto), Yvonne E.Maxwell (@yvonne.emaxwell).
Exploring the complex interplay between trauma, healing, domesticity, and matrescence—the profound physical, emotional, and psychological transformation experienced in the postnatal journey of becoming mother— PostNatal considers this transition not just as a biological passage but as a deeply creative and transformative process, often marked by pain and rupture alongside the resilience and healing that emerges.
This presentation enquires the often-overlooked narratives of (m)otherhood, reclaiming them as vital, raw, and profoundly human.

Somewhere Elsewhere
Somewhere Elsewhere
In the wake of the long, cold winter nights, Somewhere Elsewhere is a visual arts exhibition
about estrangement rooted within our global socio-environmental contexts. We invite you to delve
into our demonstration of grey matters through a range of art disciplines that respond to the
cacophonies of unstable occurrences happening today. This instability has fragmented our senses
and abandoned us in liberty to be Somewhere Elsewhere.
As we contemplate new meanings, we await to situate stray identities, take grasps of what wisdom
may be left, and advance through this blizzard towards a reconfigured self.
The show includes a series of live performances and live reading sessions.

Safe Waters
PostNatal
Safe Waters, an exhibition by Monya Riachi, marks the culmination of research developed during her yearlong Graduate residency award at Lewisham Arthouse. The work starts by considering the very building it is exhibited in, the year of its construction and the story of the founding of Lewisham, before exploring their ties – through material, resource and power – to the continued violence on the land from which the artist comes: the Levant. Drawing connections across geographies and time, Monya uses maps, salt, water and the poppy as both subjects and materials to create a site-specific installation that holds notions of history and our present. Safe Waters has received curatorial support from Jessica El Mal as part of As We Are, Might Have Been and Could Be, the Arab British Centre’s three-year visual arts and talent development programme supported by Freelands Foundation.

Proposals
The Project Space is run with the aim of providing affordable exhibition space and a platform for emerging artists, community groups and those who have been unable to find support/space through traditional gallery routes. In doing this we hope to provide a vibrant program of exhibitions for our local community, creating an opportunity for people to enjoy, discuss and engage with contemporary art in an informal and accessible setting. Alongside the program of hire shows we also facilitate larger projects and residencies that focus on our core aims of outreach and community engagement. We are always interested to hear from local artists, curators and community groups with proposals for larger projects or who are interested in forming creative partnerships with the Arthouse.
Lewisham Arthouse is committed to ensuring our Project Space is accessible for anyone to hire. We acknowledge that social barriers may influence participation in, and enjoyment of the arts. In an effort to address this in our local communities, our application process is open to everyone, regardless of age or educational background. We particularly welcome applications from non-white, Black, Asian and minority ethnicity individuals and groups.
Hire Fees – rates from November 2024 as follows:
2 weeks = £500 (Minimum booking)
3 weeks = £695
4 weeks = £860
Due to increased running costs and energy bills, hire fees have increased by 10% as of November 2024. This is inline with an increase in studio rent paid by Arthouse members and will be reviewed regularly.
